The word, “Entr’acte” has its origin in French and emerged in the mid 19th century. The word conveys a interlude between an opera or a play.
Do you enjoy the entr’actes in your life? If you do, is it often enough to refresh you?
While pausing momentarily, as we move on with our life helps us in many ways, it is especially helpful in relieving stress.
For the simple reason that when we pause, we tend to prioritize our tasks of the day into tasks that are most important for us to complete in the day. This prioritization will affect our time management skills, help us become more productive and happier as members of society.
Our connectivity with dear ones is also an example of how much time we spend getting our life into a state of balance. A healthy balance of work and pleasure is crucial for our well-being and energy. Making the conscious time to connect with our dear ones is a lot more easier if we understand and follow the principles of making time for everything in life.
Years ago, my daughter’s friendly high school headmistress shared with me about the two month interesting road trip her family and her parents had made in the US. She called it “a trip to really see the country”. What fascinated me was the sheer spirit of adventure they had, to make a trip of this kind.
How many of us would like to make the time for such a long refreshing Bohemian holiday with such an quaint objective? Apart from the excellent break that it must have been for her, it would have been a great way for her whole family to connect with each other.
For optimum mental and physical performance, our body requires the rest from sleep and the serenity it derives from yoga and meditation.
Following a consistent sleeping schedule and practicing yoga and meditation regularly are great stress reduction activities. Many neglect to take care of the body and well-being amidst their busy life. Our body is undoubtedly a loyal mechanism that will tirelessly function and strive to take care of our well-being even when it is neglected. But sometimes, the alarms the body gives when it is neglected gets ignored and it gives up.
One of the keys to achieve good health and harmony is by following a disciplined schedule for wellness maintenance.
I grew up in a fortunate environment that taught me the positive impact of a work and leisure balance in life. Despite all the pressures of starting and managing his business, my Father had a remarkable skill in balancing his work and the time he spent for his family. Being in the marine equipment service industry, during the early years of his business, as a one man company he could have no privilege of planning his day in advance. The time he would get to sleep and rest was very irregular due to the immense work pressure he experienced. Despite that, when he would come home from work, sometimes in the morning after a late night work on a ship, a quick meal and small nap later, he would be ready to spend time with us.
How he managed this feat, I have no idea. He would furthermore be ready to help us with our school work if necessary or accompany my Mother for a drive or a grocery shopping trip with no trace of exhaustion! Fortunately, as years passed by and when his business prospered, he began to follow a regular daily pattern of work.
He would however, invariably never work from home and ensured that he spent quality time with all of us. Better work and leisure balance is a fantastic way of making the best of your life.
The “commas” we implement during the course of our life journey, will enable us to lead a life that helps us perform tasks based on their precedence. It is also an excellent way of making progress in our personal journey, just as we focus our attention on achieving professional success.
As someone once said,
“Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life”
