The Lotus Flower – Rising, Blooming & Radiating
Since ancient times, the beauty of the Lotus Flower has been celebrated along with its universal representation of the purity of mind and soul.
A fully bloomed lotus represents life, youth, enlightenment and self awareness – a celebration of what I would term as the spirit of human fearlessness and courage.
Arguably there are many flowers that can be termed “beautiful” for their exotic appearance and fragrant appeal, but observing the lotus flower as it lies in bliss over the tranquil waters of a lake or a pond is a sheer experience by itself. Like a regal empress, the majesty, serenity and dignity of the lotus flower has ensured that her place among the blossoms is one that is unique.
One of the reasons I have always admired the lotus is that it is one flower that conveys the strength of human ability to endure hardship and misfortune. It grows gracefully in muddy water, rising boldly from murky depths to bloom and sit in peaceful meditation. The Lotus always has the phenomenal ability to appear radiant yet pure and humble despite the backdrop of the muddy depths from where it emerges.
A flower that is detached from the environment, yet playing its role in the mysterious existence called life….its petals have the ability to allow water droplets slide off.
If I were to be asked the question whether I have had the privilege to meet a person possessing some of the qualities of this glorious flower, the answer would be “yes”.
How else would would I describe someone who is virtuous, principled, enjoys the beauty of life in the spirit of benevolence and strength but had faced the numerous adversities she experienced with determination and humility ?
How else would I describe this person, who had waited with joyful patience for many years to be married and be with her beloved only to see that possibility shattered when he dies before he could meet her parents and ask for her hand in marriage?
How else would I describe someone who painfully yet silently picked up the pieces of her life, while taking care of her ailing parents and moved forward with her beautiful smile without thinking “Why Me?”?
Her smile’s sunny radiance is admirably undiminished by the tragedy that she had experienced in stoic silence. She faces life with optimism, renewed vigor and hope, as positive today as when she had been joyously planning her life not so long ago.
My friend is an inspiration for all who know her…in her quest to survive, thrive and bloom.
Just like the Lotus Flower…emerging above the murk and illuminating its environment.
