One of the wonderful steps we can take care of our body, mind and soul is simply by loving who we are. Unfortunately, for many, it is easier said than done.
Irrational questions like, “Are we not projecting ourselves as arrogant if we love ourselves?”, haunt us and prevent us for accepting and loving us for who we are.
Just like how altruism is a way of life, our interest in our well being enhances the quality of our life. What are some of the aspects of life, if focused better, enables us to love ourselves?
Our acceptance of the unpredictability of life enables us to value and appreciate ourselves better. Life is a process that are full of moments, moments that we cherish and some we would prefer to forget. If we are willing to enjoy and get the best of what life is, then we are focusing on the goodness and the positive factors in our life. How else can we enjoy and appreciate life if we are not able to take care of ourselves effectively? Loving ourselves is one significant step in our acceptance of life.
We all appreciate the respect that we need to give to others as part of being the courteous social beings we are. But are we paying attention to the respect we are receiving? Do we tolerate behavior that we need not? Toxic people with their negative disrespectful behavior needs to dealt with effectively and firmly. Ensuring that we are responded with politeness and respect is everyone’s birthright and it indeed a part of loving ourselves. If we do not love ourselves how can we expect others to like or care for us? This conscious decision to expect the respect we portray to others will not effect the manner we accept people in general. However, this would affect those whom we wish to consider as dear to us and those whom we interact regularly.
There are many situations that despite our concerns, we have forgiven others or have been patient regarding their shortcomings. Loving ourselves also begins with being patient with our shortcomings while working on overcoming them. It also is related to forgiving the mistakes we have committed.
Being bold and courageous to verbally communicate is essential for our well-being. This communication also conveys our respect and regard for ourselves. Our determination to speak up for ourselves is critical because how else would others know what is on our minds unless we communicate our thoughts to them? Speaking up is also part of loving ourselves since we are taking charge of the responsibility of handling the matter to our preferences and wishes. This step does not mean that we will only follow what we communicate, this merely means that we make our stance clear and transparent.
Communicate with yourself. Talking to ourselves privately is a healthy way of loving and caring for ourselves. It may appear eccentric or outright strange but this internal communication with ourselves enables us to have discussions that conveys what we truly believe about our situation or matter. It is also a healthy way to consciously subdue any tendency of self-importance that lies dormant within us.
As a person who is a part of a family or the large fabric of society, we are all part of helping others grow and develop. For eg: As a teacher, we are involved in nurturing and grooming students to develop, at the workplace we learn from our team just as they learn from us, while as a parent or Mother, we are busy developing our children to grow and become responsible members of society. How many of us gives a strong focus in developing ourselves as much as we may enjoy developing others? Just as we lovingly help others to grow and bloom, our focus on ourselves will enable us to lovingly develop and become better and more effective members of society. More importantly, we will be reflecting our love for ourselves in the framework of life.
Last but not least, Visualization or the conscious envisioning of images of goals or dreams is also a step in enhancing your awareness of your care for yourself. However, merely imagining the final stage of achieving your goal may not effectively aid you in the process of procuring it. For the technique of visualization to be effectively implemented, the strategy or steps needs to have a certain clarity before the visualization process gets underway.
As a positive thinking enhancing tool, visualization is powerful and a motivating force to spur the attainment of the dream’s success. It is also not only provides us with an anticipation for our future but instills an inner feeling of well-being in the process. Perhaps most importantly, it gives the glow of satisfaction with yourself and a positive acknowledgement to the unique personality that you alone have.
Our well being and harmony in life is indeed governed by our emotional and physical state.
More importantly, it is highly influenced by the interactions and relationships we have with others, along with the crucial respect and regard we have for ourselves.
