A few months ago, during a busy evening of grocery shopping, I met this lovely lady in the restaurant that I dashed in to have a quick dinner.
Sitting by myself and contemplating the chores that I needed to complete before heading home, there appeared this lady who strolled into the restaurant. Confident, charismatic and charming, she warmly greeted the staff and sat a couple of tables way.
Preoccupied in my thoughts, I was pleasantly surprised to hear a , “If you are having a meal by yourself, why don’t you join me?”
After making the quick introductions, she graciously insisted I sit at her table, although I had completed my meal and we began chatting.
Louisa was divorced and had a child who was in boarding school in India. Having arrived in Dubai as recently as few months ago, she had settled down in her job and her new home. With no family or friends here, she quickly settled down to make the best of what life has placed in her hands.
While many a time, personal challenges in our life can cause us to be cautious, go into our “shell” and sometimes a little contemplative…but to my pleasant surprise, here was one person who seem to not just thrive amidst life’s challenges but boldly continue being the lively and positive person that she is. Her experiences were pure learning experiences that neither made her bitter or reclusive but had made her stronger and enhanced her positive attitude to life.
She spoke of the blessings she was gifted with, her adorable child, her loving parents, the vibrant city that Dubai is and her great job. There was no talk or trace of the unhappiness that had fleetingly shadowed her life.
Louisa’s strength lay in her positive belief of life. Life, that is a journey of unpredictable experiences and lessons.
How many times do we meet someone who plays by their own beautiful and positive social rules?
Many who played by following their own code of positive social rules often are those who believe in themselves and their dreams. They treasure the joys and their achievements of their past. The future they visualize is one that is fabulous and they make the efforts to lead their life to achieve that future.
Louisa’s confidence in the righteous existence that she led was a pleasure to observe. The warmth of her smile as she had entered the restaurant was infectious. It made little difference to her whether all responded in kind back to her or whether her enthusiastic invitation to me may not be reciprocated with the warmth she showed.
She had no regrets and did not fear making mistakes. Her attitude was one that a mistake is part of the learning in life and only needed to be attended to if it has hurt another knowingly or unknowingly.
Most importantly, her interest in others and their lives conveyed the unquenchable belief that others success stories are to be celebrated just as our own. Any story of success you hear is an inspiring reminder that just like them you can be a success too.
As a wise person once said,
“Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life, it’s about what you inspire others to do”
